JUDY ROAST RAISES OVER $5,000.00 On Monday, December 29, over 300 alumni and friends of Bishop Canevin High School attended the school’s fourth annual Comedy Night event at O’Connor Hall in St. Paul’s Seminary, which was a Roast of long-time Bishop Canevin Academic Vice Principal Sr. Judith Worden, R.S.M. The event raised over $5,000.00 to benefit Bishop Canevin tuition assistance programs. Sr. Judy has been involved in education since 1959, serving as a teacher of mathematics in the dioceses of Pittsburgh, Greensburg, and San Juan Puerto Rico. She came to Bishop Canevin in 1972, was appointed Vice Principal for Academic Affairs in 1979, and in 1983 was given the additional duty of Director of Apostolic Works for the seminarians by Bishop Wuerl, who was then rector of the seminary. In addition to her academic duties, Sr. Judy has served as a mathematics teacher, faculty moderator of the school musical and the Crusettes. Jesse Joyce, a 1996 graduate of Bishop Canevin, served as the event’s Roast Master. Jesse has written for the Comedy Central Roasts of Flava Flav and Bob Saget, and recently wrote some of the highlights of Cheech and Chong Roasted from the Comedy Festival in Las Vegas on TBS that aired this November. He's done roasts for the prestigious Friar's club in New York City and has roasted everyone from Carrot Top, to Mother Teresa's doctor (not a joke), Ice T to Geraldo Rivera, Snoop Dog to Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl. Jesse started his comedy career in Pittsburgh in 1998. In 2001 he made the move to New York City and since then and has been making a name for himself as one of the hottest young comics working today. Jesse was joined by the following Roasters: KDKA-TV’s Bob Pompeani, former Bishop Canevin Headmaster John Maurer, current Bishop Canevin teacher/Athletic Director/Football Coach Bob Jacoby, writer Chris Dimond (Class of 1997) and former Bishop Canevin Comedy Night comedians Tim Dimond (Class of 2004), Darrin Hall (Class of 1997) and Justin Janosko (Class of 1998). All comedians/roasters donated their time to make this an all profit event. Following the event, official event sponsor The Hop House hosted an after party, which allowed audience members to meet the comedians/roasters.
