Sister Judith Worden, RSM, is the Academic Vice Principal at Bishop Canevin High School She has been involved in education since 1959, serving as a teacher of mathematics in the dioceses of Pittsburgh, Greensburg, and San Juan Puerto Rico. She came to Bishop Canevin in 1972, was appointed Vice Principal for Academic Affairs in 1979, and in 1983 was given the additional duty of Director of Apostolic Works for the seminarians by Bishop Wuerl, who was then rector of the seminary. In addition to her academic duties, Sister Judy has served as a mathematics teacher, faculty moderator of the school musical and the Crusettes. In 2005, Sr. Judy celebrated her Golden Jubilee as a Sister of Mercy. Entering the community in 1955, Sister Judy professed final vows in 1961. Mafalda "Tilly" Worden, her mother, cultivated in her daughter, as well as her entire family, a devout prayer life. Mrs. Worden celebrated her 102nd birthday in August. In 2008, she was recognized for her life-long commitment to serving the Lord in the vocation of religious life, and presented with Bishop Canevin High School's Distinguished Educator Honor. Leo Worden, Sister Judy's father, was a lifetime member of the Serra Club, and intensely interested in the cause of furthering religious vocations. On Monday, December 29, our panel of Roasters will be on hand to remind everyone of Sr. Judy's more "intense" side that she shared with the Canevin community earlier in her career. Don't miss out!
